I have Word starter installed on my computer. It works fine and opens and edits files.

I just installed a full version of Word 2010. It works fine.

However, when I double-click on a .docx file, it is opened in Word Starter.

How do I get the computer to open .docx file in Word 2010? Why did Word 2010 not upgrade or remove Word Starter?

Yes

Right Click the File, Select Open With Option. If Open With is not there try holding shift while right clicking.

After Open With is visible Select Word 2010 or browse to it if there it not in the list.Do also check Select Default Program or Always Open With option.

From now on you are Good to go!

Enjoy!

Right click the file, select Properties. When the properties window pops up, look for the section that says Opens With just below the top. There will be a button to the right that says Change. When you click that button, a dialog will appear that will have a list of recommended programs and Word 2010 should be on the list. If it is not, you can use the browse button to look for it. Once you hit OK at this window it will change it so that explorer opens that file type in Word 2010 instead of Word Starter.

The problem could be a compatibility conflict between the two software programs.

To fix this just:

Start Menu >Default Programs >Associate a file type or protocol with a program

Look for docx (You can simple just type in .docx and it should select it in the list.

Then click Change Program on the top right. And select Microsoft Word. If Microsoft Word is not in the list then the path should be something like: C:Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOffice14WINWORD.EXE

You can also just right click the file and go to Properties, then change the default program from there.

You need to go into your control panel change view to large or small icon by 'view' in top right corner. Go into default programs click associate file type or protocol with a specific program. Look at the program icon in column one you will need to know this to know what program to select. Whenever it lists under the third list current default programs 'Microsoft Application Virtualization launcher' sometimes includes DDE in the launcher statement double click on the words Microsoft Application Virtualization launcher. you then get up a box that says 'open with' choose program you want to open this file with. Click on the blue down arrow on right which is opposite the words other program. You will then see a list with icons of the programs you normally use. If the icon in column one was a word one just click on Microsoft word and hey presto it will change the third column to 'Microsoft Word' There are several Microsoft Application Virtualization launcher to change with each program in word, and excel and picture they was just one I did not change because it said an unknown application

Your programs will now open in the way they did before you set up Starter Office 2010.

I hope this helps

Install Microsoft Application Virtualization Dde Launcher Update

Applies to: Windows 10, version 1607

Microsoft Application Virtualization (App-V) for Windows 10 delivers Win32 applications to users as virtual applications. Virtual applications are installed on centrally managed servers and delivered to users as a service in real time and on an as-needed basis. Users launch virtual applications from familiar access points and interact with them as if they were installed locally.

With the release of Windows 10, version 1607, App-V is included with the Windows 10 for Enterprise edition. If you're new to Windows 10 and App-V, you’ll need to download, activate, and install server- and client-side components to start delivering virtual applications to users. To learn what you need to know before getting started with App-V, see the Application Virtualization (App-V) overview.

If you’re already using App-V, performing an in-place upgrade to Windows 10 on user devices automatically installs the App-V client and migrates users’ App-V applications and settings. For more information about how to configure an existing App-V installation after upgrading user devices to Windows 10, see Upgrading to App-V for Windows 10 from an existing installation.

Important

You can upgrade your existing App-V installation to App-V for Windows from App-V versions 5.0 SP2 and higher only. If you are using an earlier version of App-V, you’ll need to upgrade your existing App-V installation to App-V 5.0 SP2 before upgrading to App-V for Windows.

To learn more about previous versions of App-V, see MDOP information experience.

Getting started with App-V for Windows 10 (new installations)

To start using App-V to deliver virtual applications to users, you’ll need to download, enable, and install server- and client-side components. The following table describes the App-V for Windows 10 components, what they do, and where to find them.

ComponentWhat it doesWhere to find it
App-V server componentsApp-V offers five server components that work together to allow you to host and publish virtual applications, generate usage reports, and manage your App-V environment. For more details, see Deploying the App-V Server.
If you're already using App-V 5.x, you don't need to redeploy the App-V server components, as they haven't changed since App-V 5.0's release.
The App-V server components are included in the Microsoft Desktop Optimization Pack (MDOP) 2015 ISO package that can be downloaded from the following locations:
If you have a Microsoft Developer Network (MSDN) subscription, use the MSDN (Microsoft Developer Network) subscriptions site to download the MDOP ISO package.
If you're using Windows 10 for Enterprise or Education, download it from the Volume Licensing Service Center.
See Deploying the App-V Server for more information about installing and using the server components.
App-V client and App-V Remote Desktop Services (RDS) clientThe App-V client is the component that runs virtualized applications on user devices, allowing users to interact with icons and file names to start virtualized applications. The App-V client is automatically installed with Windows 10, version 1607.
To learn how to enable the client, see Enable the App-V desktop client.
App-V sequencerUse the App-V sequencer to convert Win32 applications into virtual packages for deployment to user devices. Devices must run the App-V client to allow users to interact with virtual applications.Installed with the Windows Assessment and Deployment kit (ADK) for Windows 10, version 1607.

For more information about these components, see High Level Architecture for App-V.

If you're new to App-V, it's a good idea to read the documentation thoroughly. Before deploying App-V in a production environment, you can ensure installation goes smoothly by validating your deployment plan in a test network environment. You might also consider taking a class about relevant technologies. To get started, see the Microsoft Training Overview.
